R&MS welcomes Dr Richard Parker

Retina & Macula Specialists is proud to announce the addition of Dr Richard Parker.

Dr Richard Parker is a general ophthalmologist with particular interest in challenging cataract surgery and oculoplastic surgery. He is committed to giving his patients the best possible care, and achieving them the best possible outcomes.

After undergraduate studies at the University of Sydney, Richard underwent his medical training at Flinders University in Adelaide, South Australia. He returned to Sydney to undertake his general medical residency at Liverpool Hospital. He completed ophthalmology training through Sydney Eye Hospital and during this time practiced at a variety of locations in Sydney and interstate.

Richard has recently completed posts as the Senior Registrar at both Royal North Shore Hospital and Westmead Hospital, some of the busiest hospitals in Sydney. He gained further experience in oculoplastic surgery during these attachments. He has particular experience in managing urgent and emergency eye conditions, and is experienced with complicated and challenging cataract surgery techniques. He works publicly as a consultant at Westmead Hospital.

Richard has completed a Master of Medicine (Ophthalmic Science) degree at the University of Sydney, and now acts as coordinator for the anatomy portion of that degree. He has published research in peer-reviewed journals in Australia and overseas. He has run courses and examinations to assist trainees with preparations for their final ophthalmology examinations. Prior to medicine, Richard studied software engineering, economics and management.

In his spare time, Richard enjoys cycling and spending time with his two children.
